The violin is a member of the string instrument group. It has four strings that must be tuned precisely in order to produce the desired sound. The violin is a fairly temperamental instrument that easily falls out of tune and must be tuned perfectly or the sound will be off. It is possibly the combination of having to learn how to tune this instrument properly, hold the hand on the neck of the violin right and use the bow properly that this particular instrument is often seen as one of the more difficult ones to learn. The violin is often referred to as the fiddle, which is its informal title. In the past the strings of the violin were made of animal gut or catgut and the hairs on the bow were made of horse hair. Today, the strings are often made out of steel or other metals and the bows are still made with horse hair.

While the violin may not have a history as long or old as wind instruments or percussion instruments do, it has still existed for a long time. Throughout most of its history, the violin remained more or less the same in use and appearance until the 1700s. It was after this that the violin went through some minor changes in design, mostly in regards to the angle of the violin’s neck. While this change may not have changed the sound of the violin much, possible changes in the materials used to make the violin have a significant affect on the sound the violin will make.

For starters, the violin is hollow and consists of mostly spruce and maple. The bridge that holds the strings up off the face of the violin is also wood. The pegs are made of wood or plastic, though wood is preferred because it has more grip to hold the strings in place. Unfortunately, many violins are sold with plastic pegs. Chalk is sometimes used to increase the grip. Other than the strings, the smaller tuning keys and the chin rest, the violin is wood. Violin makers, also known as luthiers, are particular and specific in what they use in making a violin. If the instrument is made with the wrong material, or the material is not aged or graded properly, the violin will not emit the sounds it is supposed to.

Violins are the smallest of the violin family of instruments, which include the viola, the cello and the base. They can also emit a higher pitch than the others, while still managing to give out a rich sound that can reach the soul. It may be a temperamental instrument that requires a lot of practice and dedication, but it is also quite a flexible instrument with a large range of sounds it can make. The four strings may seem limiting to the inexperienced, but they are not very limiting at all. The violin can play just about any kind of music and has an amazing range that can be well manipulated to create beautiful sounds and music.

In recent months online violin lessons have grown in popularity tenfold. Or at least it seems that amount anyway. But why are they becoming so popular? What is it that is drawing budding players and violin beginners to this method of learning?

It’s absolutely true that people will always seek a local teachers for music and violin tuition. It is important to have relationships with other musicians after all. But I think there is also several factors, and important factors, that point people towards Internet education.

Firstly look at today’s economic climate. The global financial downturn has left many people short of wealthy, that’s for sure. For most people there appears to be too much month left at the end of the money, so cheaper violin lessons are certainly appealing. You can pay as little as for up to 6 months worth of violin tuition where as a single lesson with a teacher in your hometown could cost that much just for one.

We must address how busy people are in this day and age too. Whether you work full-time or whether you are still at school, hours are long and free time always feels like it is scarce. Sure we may have a burning desire to learn to play a musical instrument, but when can we fit it in? When can we find time to drive to someone else’s home or studio, have a lesson and then drive back?

When we look at how convenient it is to turn your computer on, access of violin website and take a lesson, it is easy to see the appeal and convenience with this method.

I don’t think online violin lessons will ever completely dominate the way that we learn this wonderful instrument. However, I do hope that the Internet will allow more people to learn and access music.

Choosing a student violin outfit is much easier today with the help of the internet. There is an abundant supply of information and products in about every area imaginable. And with products such as musical instruments, there are even more things to be considered with each piece. There are variations with the materials they’re made of. Different wood produces different tones. If the instrument has strings, what the strings are made of will affect the sound that it puts out.

When choosing a student violin outfit, you must not only find the different make-up ingredients you want, but as with any other product, you need to find a bargain. While there are times when buyers have found little instrument jewels at pawn shops or flea markets, this is the exception rather than the rule. It’s a safe bet that any instruments turning up in these places will need some repairs.

A good violin outfit will have to pass some basic tests. It’s ‘performance’ will be one. This is how it responds to the musician playing on it. It’s the dynamics of how the instrument performs when played. ‘Appearance’ is another big factor. You want your instrument to be impressive and nice for others to look at. You’ll want to know if it has any ‘Collector’s Value’. And the ‘Tone’ is always an important aspect of choosing an instrument for purchase. You also want to know how well it’s been taken care of, if it’s been repaired before, and if so, what kind of repairs were done.

A student violin should never be a really cheap instrument. You’ll only want to upgrade once you begin to rise in skill and then you will have wasted the money you put out originally. It’s much wiser to get a good one, and learn on it, and keep it. You’ll be used to it from learning on it, and it’ll be very comfortable for you. So it’s not a good idea to buy one that needs fixed up. Get yourself a good one from the start.

This doesn’t mean that you start off with the best student violin you can buy either. Just not a ‘clunker’. Cheap violin outfits are sold online and in music shops that really aren’t worth putting your money into. Get one that you can ‘grow’ into and when you feel ready, move on up into something more suitable for your ballooning talents. A rule of thumb for starting off is around 0-0 for a beginner, then approximately 0-00 for an intermediary student. Once you’ve reached the advanced level, about a 00-00 instrument may be required. This is not chiseled in stone; it’s just a sort of guideline as to the quality ranges for students learning the violin. When you reach ‘Collector’s’ prices, you can expect ,000-,000 and up.

When choosing a student violin outfit, you may want to make your purchase from a dealer. After all, their reputation is at stake, so they tend to stand behind their products. They can offer some good advice, and you can establish a good relationship that will serve you well in the future. They’re very knowledgeable and can be a tremendous help in making decisions about your violin outfit. They understand where you are in your path to learning the violin, and they know just what your needs are at this time from your student violin outfit.

So How Do I Do This?

Many of us parents only want the best for our children. We want to give them the best education in order for them to be molded into responsible persons, allow them to be capable of standing on their own and to deal with difficulties in the future. Proper education gives our children the knowledge in order for them to learn how to think of solutions to solve many problems. Education allows them to stand with on their own and work their way thru the difficulties around. Most of all, education allows them to learn how to properly deal with other people.

Watching kids able to play or perform their skills or talents on stage is an achievement of every parent in making their kid grows up to be useful and talented individuals. That is why while our children are still young; many of us parents want to expose our children to different learning activities before they go to formal school. Some parents expose their kids to talent-honing activities such as painting, voice lessons, dancing clubs, etc. They also allow their kids to join skill developing activities with beginning violin lessons is one common activity. Children beginning violin lessons at an early age allows them to become exceptional violin master players in the future. Education on developing skills are best learned when our children are still young because it takes time to learn a skill. Honing talents are much easier because it is already inherent in a person.

Aside from the chance of becoming a pro in the future, when a child learns these activities before they go to school for formal education they already have an edge over the other kids. This is because the child has already been exposed to lessons and teachings beforehand. Therefore, they will have more confidence when they enter formal education and can well adjust to the new environment. They will also be able to handle well their studies because their attitude of being a student is already developed and tested when they are still learning their skill developing lessons.

The kids are more confident in dealing with people and there is always a good chance that they can do well in their academics. For example, a child beginning violin lessons at a young age that have been able to perform on stage is more confident than the rest of the children who just stayed home before formal education. It is because they have dealt with their fears and nervousness when they perform in front of an audience. It is the same when they enter formal school. They can participate well in many activities and most of the time; they possess leadership skills because of their confidence.

Many people dabble with the idea of taking online violin lessons, they research, check out different teachers and read many different reviews. I often wonder why some people never choose to fully commit to learning an instrument. Maybe there is always some doubts that people cannot learn for one reason or another.

Some people think they are too old what others think they are too young. Many people believe they are too busy to take on such a challenge, whilst others feel it may just be too much of a challenge.

So can anyone learn how to play the violin?

Personally, I do think that anyone can learn to play any musical instrument invented. Whether it is a violin, viola, guitar, drums, piano, African flute or Indian sitar we are all capable. The real challenge is not whether you are capable of learning it’s whether you approach your learning from the right angle and with the right frame of mind.

You could take two identical people, from the same background, with the same IQ, even with the same career and the same amount of free time. It is very possible that one person could succeed in playing the violin whilst the other identical person could be a total flop.

If our success story devoted themselves to daily or at least regular practice, if they continuously built on their music reading & sight reading skills and worked on bowing technique and tone they would obviously outshine other players who simply did not do the work. Even if they were matched against someone identical as mentioned above.

So yes anyone can learn to play with violin lessons providing that they organise themselves, their time and their efforts to achieve their goals. As you hear many successful musicians, sports personalities and businesspeople say ‘it is 99% hard work and only 1% talent’!

Maybe you are one of the people that is considering taking violin lessons. My advice is to go for it! Learning a musical instrument is a challenging and exciting experience full of rewards and hopefully great music.

Many beginners learn the absolute basics of the instrument to start with. This will be learning the names of the different parts. Such as the bridge, neck, tuning pegs and sound holes, bow and strings. From here the next step is usually to learn how to hold the violin itself. Obviously we all know that the violin is tucked underneath the chin and squeezed lightly onto the left shoulder.

However many teachers may get you to begin with the violin in a banjo position and hold it between your right arm and body just like a guitar or banjo. From here you can begin to ‘pluck’ the strings with your right hand. This teaches you to learn the positions of the 4 strings, there names, there pitch and it helps to simplify the playing technique whilst you become competent at reading music.

The names of the strings are from low to high are, G D A and E. The G being the G below middle C. To begin to learn the violin you will most probably begin by playing just the open strings and not include the left hand just yet.

As a bowing technique is introduce as you learn how to play the violin for beginners, the instrument is raised onto the left shoulder and held in place with the chin. Again as you begin to use the bow you will more than likely stick to mastering the 4 open strings and avoid the left hand at this point.

Starting today you can learn how to play the violin despite your age background or experience. It is a fun and rewarding instrument to play and in contrary to popular belief you can play any style of music on the violin. There are children and adults alike looking at how best to play the violin and there are many different methods, but here I will outline the 2 that I believe to be the best and quickest routes to musical success.

Offline with private lessons.

This is perhaps one of the more well known methods and still very popular amongst all players. Here I recommend that you go to a local music shop, preferably a violin specialist and ask about a good, local violin teacher. Many music shops have a teacher that visits or as with a specialist shops, the owner may play and teach as well. Either way they will be able to point you in the right direction. My only word of warning here is that you do not begin with group lessons if possible. This is not to say they are ineffective. Many people learn as part of a group and see great progress. However if you are paying top price for one to one lessons, then make sure they are just that.

This is perhaps not yet as popular as the more traditional method of learning. But with the huge boom in online learning, give this a few more months and the tables may turn. Online violin lessons are firstly incredibly good value for money, with a whole 12 month course costing around the same price as 1 traditional lesson. Lessons usually appear as a downloadable series of videos, books, PDF’s and bonuses such as play along backing tracks. Many are also created by famous violinists making the lessons a real privilege as you study with a real life master. Imagine studying with a 21st century Paganini!

Learning how to play the violin online has a huge amount of benefits, with my favourite being that you don’t have to leave your home for a lesson or perform in front of anyone until you are completely ready to do so.
